Our Mission Statement is:
With Jesus Christ as our Cornerstone,
we share the Love of God,
create disciples,
grow in our journey
and transform lives for Him.
To support the mission statement above we encourage and support activities both within our walls and beyond.
Through a number of Ministries of Hospitality we announce the good news that God's reign is at hand.
Every Tuesday evening at 6:00 our Tuesday Meal and Ministry offers a meal to whoever shows up. This has been a gathering of some long-time members of the church and friends and neighbors.
We are a satellite congregation of the Interfaith Hospitality Network, which provides shelter to homeless women and children. Every six weeks volunteers from Central support the the East Union Presbyterian Church during its week as a host church.
Approximately monthly a small group of volunteers gather on Saturday morning to make a large quantity of soup from donated ingredients. We then distribute the soup in jars to various people such as the residents of nearby public housing, our shut-ins, or other friends or neighbors of the church.
Through our Educational Ministries we make and nurture disciples.
Following the meal at the Tuesday Meal and Ministry we have a time of weekly Bible study.
Grand Central Station is our mid-week program for elementary school-age children (K-5). During the school year we meet on Wednesdays at 5:15 for songs, lessons, a meal, and adventure.
We support a number of Local Agencies and Organizations as follows:
Our church is an active member of the Allegheny Valley Association of Churches, supporting all of its many ministries, which include the Interfaith Hospitality Network, of which we are a satellite church.
We have established a partnership with the Grandview Elementary School to support their Title I reading programs in encouraging parents to be be involved in their children's education. We use our local portion of the Pentecost Offering to participate in this partnership.
We support the Alle-Kiski Hope Center, a domestic violence agency serving the Alle-Kiski Valley. We use the local portion of our annual Peacemaking Offering as one of the ways we support the Hope Center.
We support Young Life of Allegheny Valley, an ecumenical youth ministry. We also support the Tarentum Volunteer Fire Department.
For a number of years we have maintained the Central Presbyterian Church Education fund, which provides a $500 scholarship for the first year of college to a member of Central who has been active in our Youth Group.
We are involved in Christ's work in the larger region and around the world as well.
We support the Basic Mission of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) through the Pittsburgh Presbytery, the Synod of the Trinity, and the General Assembly of the PCUSA.
We have a mission partnership with the Ntcheu CCAP in Malawi.
