This page will contain information and announcements about the activities of the Board of Deacons of Central Presbyterian Church.
The Deacons will coordinate the congregation's assembly and shipment of kits for refugees from Hurricane Katrina. These kits will be made for Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, based on information give on the PDA website at http://www.pcusa.org/pda/tools/shelterhealthkit.htm.
The Hope-in-a-Box Kit was designed to help children who have been impacted by disaster. This is not a toy kit — it is a gift that will make a true difference in addressing immediate hygiene and emotional needs of traumatized children.
People who want to help with the kits should donate items on the lists below by bringing them to the church. The Deacons will assemble the kits and ship them to Presbyterian Disaster Assistance.
Important Update - September 15, 2005
We have been advised by Presbyterian Disaster Assistance that they now have enough kits and do not need more. We will continue with making kits from the donated materials we now have on hand. The Deacons will meet for this purpose on September 22 at 7:00 PM. We will attempt to identify another recipient for these kits. If we cannot find another recipient, we will pack them for shipping and will advise Presbyterian Disaster Assistance how many kits we have of each type so that we can ship them to an appropriate destination the next time there is an emergency.
